Window stands as my first painting. When decorating my first apartment when I was finally living alone, I needed something to hang in my bedroom. While I could have asked a friend to make something, I already had ideas swirling in my head and knew that I needed to do this on my own.
I knew immediately that I needed to bring my love of straight lines and right angles to the fore, incorporating a cleanness and neatness that I’d been craving in my life. If I could make my new home as clean and neat as I wanted it to be, I would make my first piece of art as clean and as neat as the rest of my home.
It began a love affair with line and form that lives to this day.

I was inspired to create this piece as a sort of challenge from a friend. My painting style beforehand was strictly two-dimensional, focusing on lines and right angles in a search for perfection in expression. Because my friend was always drawn to works of art in shades of blue and with lots of depth and dimension, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and try something very new (and, in the end, very intimidating and time-consuming).
With this piece, I wanted to evoke the feeling of water — of the way ocean waves undulate and twist, and of the way water bends when it encounters an obstacle. In the end, while the movement of water (and this piece) may appear chaotic, from afar it can still allow us to find a moment to contemplate movement and how chaos can, in its own way, be beautiful.

The friend whom I made this for loves pop art and bright, primary colors. Each primary color here gets its own focus by being visually removed from the others via the black and white lines.

This next commission for my sister-in-law was for her bedroom. She’d chosen her color scheme and already had art across many of her walls, but she felt that the one wall was still too empty.
Again, she came to me with very specific ideas of using two tall canvases with her four chosen colors across a gradient. I love when collectors have a really solid sense of what they want because it feels like a true partnership in the creative process.
Inspired by the patterning of Art Deco, I took a very Deco theme and flattened it, removing the luxury and glamour associated with the Deco style. I like to think that I brought back to the forefront the simple beauty of its angles.
This piece won the Tim Salen Memorial Award for Work in Any Medium at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL, in 2020.

I appreciate the difficulty inherent in playing with gradients, and creating a gradient out of negative space felt like an appropriate artistic challenge for myself. Two beautiful colors can bring out the best in each other.

Inspired by an equalizer bar, I went with a dark monochrome color palette to flip the expectations of the weight and power of white vs. black. Black is usually a “heavy” color, but here against a dark grey, suddenly the color white brings the weight to the image. So in the end, “power” is shaped by context.

My sister-in-law had recently purchased a new home with a lot of large, open walls. She wanted something unique to fill the wall shared by her kitchen and living area, so we chatted back and forth about using an array of smaller canvases.
I used some paint from a previous project of hers to color-match her very particular shade of navy blue, and I used thinned-out flow acrylic paint to create the swirl.
With my love of straight lines, would anyone be surprised that I also adore architecture?
Here, I was inspired by the lights on the Capital City Towers in Moscow at night, how their sides illuminate with vertical LED lighting.

This piece was inspired by the work of another Brazilian Concrete artist, Ivan Serpa. His Untitled (1958) took a more compressed and flat approach, presented in the monochromatic style of the Grupo Frente artist group that he founded.
I wanted to take his approach and bring some dimension into the image. So here I meld a geometric design with not only the depth of the gradient background but also with true texture, giving the piece a look of patina, rust, and deterioration.

Using Wave 1 as a jumping-off point, I realized that creating three-dimensional pieces would be a great opportunity to explore beyond the rigidity of line and instead dig deep into the power of just color.
Here, I was inspired by the shades we commonly associate with the seasons — how four combinations of pigments can tell the four short stories of each season.
This piece was selected as a finalist for the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series 2018.

This is the second in my series based on the cyberpunk aesthetic. Here, I took my base inspiration from the exterior design of the Hotel Ninja Black in Kyoto, designed by EASTERN Design Office, and ran with it.

As a member of the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, I get the opportunity to show a piece of work in their annual members’ show. For 2018, the theme was “100,” to honor the art center’s centennial.
To embrace this theme, I used 100 pieces of watercolor paper to create a monochromatic gradient.

These friends are already some collectors of mine — the first piece of mine they had purchased was Equalizing — but after doing a fairly major remodeling of their home, they had some more wall space to fill.
They’ve always loved my very bold, linear works, so I wanted to give them something big and striking while using hues that worked well with their new color scheme.
Here I took the same concept as I had with Sundown Mirage, but I subverted the colors to create a cooler, more lunar visual approach.
Between the layering of darker blue-grays in the background and then the gradient in the foreground, the end result has a dynamism and sense of movement that reminds me of a mirage.
