Misaligned and Maligned
Misaligned and Maligned
Acrylic on canvas
24in x 24in
To me, painting is a process of finding something that I can control when everything else around me may feel like it’s falling apart. Using acrylic paint and tape, I try to channel and transform the chaos that I’m feeling into something meditative, meticulous, and balanced.
Early on in the COVID-19 pandemic (for the U.S. anyway), I had already started to see just how deeply this crisis would affect my loved ones. The world was already beginning to feel askew, with plans and livelihoods slipping away, and everything feeling like it was shifting into this "new normal” that would split our world even more into the “haves” and the “have nots.”
Even as we have been working to find normalcy, nothing is quite lining up right anymore. And as these misalignments in our new world deepen and stretch, everything feels more perilous as those left behind feel more maligned and forgotten.
